This page explains what Armstrong collects when you use the website, the organiser console or the app, what other people can see, and how to get your data changed or deleted. Armstrong processes personal information in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Your account: your email address (or your Google sign-in) and a password managed by Firebase Authentication. We never see your Google password.
Your profile: your name, date of birth (to place you in the right age category), competition category, country and region, and, if you add them, your preferred arm, pulling style, the year you started, your competition weight, height, arm length, bicep and forearm measurements, a profile photo, and, if you want, one line about what changed your arm wrestling the most. You also choose how you appear to other people (see below). Everything except your name, date of birth and category is optional.
Clubs: which club you belong to and your role in it, requests to join a club, and claims to run a club's page. For clubs Armstrong listed before anyone ran their page, we used only the club's name, region and town from public directories, never a person's contact details.
Events: when you enter, your weight, age, category and arms. When you ask to organise, what you write in your request, which only Armstrong's administrator sees. When you organise, the event's details, poster and any message you send your entrants.
Results and ratings: the matches you pull at events run on Armstrong, and, for events approved for the rankings, your Elo rating and match history.
Alerts and following: if you turn on alerts, or follow an event or a puller, we keep a push notification token for your device or the email address you gave, and what you follow. You do not need an account to follow. We use them only to send the messages you asked for, such as an event starting or a puller you follow being about to pull. We do not send results. Email alerts only start once you confirm the first email, and every message has a link to stop. Email is sent through Resend and push notifications through Google Firebase Cloud Messaging.
Visits: which pages are viewed, the site a visitor came from, and whether it was a phone or a computer, tied to a random id stored in your browser. No cookies, no names, no email and no IP address are kept for this. We also note when that id was last seen and on which page, to count how many people are on the site now and over the last day, week and month. That is deleted after about a month. It only tells us how Armstrong is used overall.
Where you sign in from: when you are signed in, we note the country, region, city and network your connection comes from (looked up from your IP address), your time zone and your browser's language. Only Armstrong's administrator can see this. It is used to protect Armstrong against fake accounts and fake clubs, for example a club that claims to be in one country but is run from another. It is a flag for a person to look at, never an automatic block, and it is deleted when you delete your account.
A club's address: the full street address a club gives is shown only to its members. If the club chooses to, a map pin shows where it trains, to about ten metres; otherwise the pin shows only the area, to about a kilometre.
Payments: Armstrong takes no money during Beta. Entry fees are paid to the organiser directly, and we don't see those payments.
This only applies if you are an organiser who connects your own YouTube channel to stream an event.
Armstrong's live stream uses YouTube API Services. When you connect a channel, you also agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's use of your data is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
What we ask Google for: only when you press Connect YouTube, we ask Google for permission to manage your YouTube account. We use it for one thing: to create the live broadcast and its stream on your channel for your event, link them, check that the stream is running, and end it. We also look at your live broadcasts to find old ones Armstrong made itself and remove them. We do not read your videos, subscribers, comments or analytics.
What we keep: the permission is used for that request and is not stored. For the event we keep the broadcast's id, your channel's name, and the address and key you put into your streaming software, which only that event's organiser can read. The public watch link is shown on the event page.
What we do not do: we do not sell, share or use this data for advertising, and we do not use it for anything except running your stream. Armstrong's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Taking it back: you can remove Armstrong's access at any time in your Google account permissions. To have the stored stream details for an event removed, delete the event or send us a privacy request below.
Arm wrestling is a public sport, so some of this is public on purpose:
You choose how you appear, when you sign up and any time after in your account: Open (name, photo and a profile page), Name only (your name on rosters and rankings, no profile page), or Anonymous (shown as "Anonymous puller" on rosters and rankings, with no photo or page). You can also switch off being followed, and then nobody can follow you or get alerts about you. Your club's captains still see who is in their club, and an event's organiser and stream still need your name to run the draw, so an event you enter shows your name there.
Your email address, date of birth, age and weight are never shown publicly, and nor is your height or any contact detail.
We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising, and Armstrong carries no ad trackers or third-party analytics.
Armstrong runs on Google Firebase (Firestore, Firebase Authentication and Cloud Functions), so your data is stored on Google's infrastructure, which may be outside your country. Access rules limit who can read what: you edit your own profile, organisers see entries to their own events, club leads see their club's join requests, and only Armstrong's administrator sees analytics and requests sent through the form below. Email alerts go through Resend. When a club gives a street address, that address and its town are sent to a map lookup service (built on OpenStreetMap data) to place the club's pin.
Arm wrestling events include competitors under 18. A minor's account and entries should be managed by a parent or legal guardian, per our Terms of Service. Armstrong's brackets keep minors out of classes with adults; the age and weight given drive that, so accuracy matters.
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will show a notice on the site rather than updating it quietly.
