How the 64 player bracket is laid out

With exactly 64 players there are no byes. The winners bracket has 6 rounds: round 1 has 32 matches, round 2 has 16 matches, round 3 has 8 matches, round 4 has 4 matches, round 5 has 2 matches, round 6 has 1 match. Players who lose there drop into the losers bracket, which has 10 rounds of 16, 16, 8, 8, 4, 4, 2, 2, 1, 1 matches. The two champions then meet in the grand final.

Everyone has to lose twice to be out, so the whole bracket takes 126 matches, or 127 if the losers bracket champion wins the grand final and a reset is played.

How long will it take?

Plan about three minutes a match, including calling the next pair. That is an estimate, and arm wrestling matches are often quicker, but it is a safe plan. More tables finish sooner, and the bracket glows one match per table so nobody has to work out who is up.

For a 64 player class pulled with both hands, double the matches, or run both hands on separate tables.
